Norfolk Southern railroad to be discussed Monday

Newborn Councilman John Donaldson has resigned.

He is taking a job at Emory University and moved out of the town limits to Conyers, making him ineligible for council.

The mayor and council will make a replacement appointment at a called meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Newborn Town Hall.

Donaldson was elected in 2009, during a complete turnover of the Newborn Town Council.

The council on June 6 approved the final reading of a water rate increase. For the first 1,000 gallons, the rate will increase from $11.18 to $11.43 and for every additional 1,000 gallons from $3.58 to $3.83. The change will become effective in July.

The town is passing on the increase it received from Newton County, which actually produces water and then sells it wholesale to various cities and the Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority.

The council is scheduled to discuss the Norfolk Southern railroad corridor in both executive and regular sessions at Monday's meeting.
