Newborn City Council held a meeting on Oct. 5.
Old business
o Reading of changes to Code of Ordinances
o Funding for the old school house: The payment of $10,000 to Michael Clark, Engineer & Roof Consultant, was approved for the survey of repairs and the bid documents. After reviewing the survey, the council will decide what repairs are immediate and necessary and the work will be open to bids.
New Business
o The adoption of community agenda by resolution to comply with minimum standards of Georgia Department of Community Affairs for Newborn
o The council approved Southern Cruisers Riding Club use of Newborn Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 24, for their "Halloween Spooktacular Poker Run." The proceeds go to St. Judes Hospital
o The council approved the application for a beer/wine license for Lucy’s Wings and
Things.
Election details
The town election will be held on Nov. 3 from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. at Town Hall in Newborn.
For those wanting to cast an absentee vote, absentee applications can be picked up at Town Hall or call Lisa, Town Clerk, and request that an application be mailed
Once the application is received by the Election Superintendent signatures will be verified with the Newton County Board of Elections that applicants are registered voters in Newborn.
Upon verification, the absentee ballot, instructions and a return envelope will be mailed. No ballot will be mailed to an address other than the address listed on registration records.
Absentee ballots must be received at Town Hall by Oct. 30.
