Newton County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in a shooting near the Silos at Ellington Friday night, in which two suspects were injured and transported to area hospitals.

According to NCSO Sgt. Cortney Morrison, a deputy made a traffic stop on Brown Bridge Road near Charleston Place between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. after spotting a suspicious vehicle that may have been involved in an earlier crime.

Morrison told The News that no deputies were injured.

“As a result of the traffic stop a situation ensued and deputies discharged their weapons at two suspects, who were injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called on scene to conduct an independent investigation.

The NCSO Criminal Investigation was also called to the situation, which is still under investigation, with no further details available at this time.
