The Newton County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 2010 participated in the 2013 Winterfest located in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Over 3,600 participants gathered from 13 states to experience what Venturing and Exploring is all about. The NCSO Explorers competed in four events: report writing, trouble unknown, felony traffic stop and DUI traffic stop. There were over 60 Explorer Agency Posts that competed in each event and the NCSO post placed 13th in felony traffic stops and 11th in DUI traffic stops.

The Explorer Post includes children ages 14-21 and who have an interest in learning about law enforcement as a career. The NCSO Post 2010 meets every Thursday night at 5:45 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office located at 15151 Alcovy Road. They will be holding fundraisers around town in the upcoming months, so please look out for those announcements. For further information or if you would like to donate to this program, contact Explorer Advisor/Deputy Patrick Gilbert at 678-625-1542.
