Mysterious art in Porterdale

Soon you will be greeted with lots of creative eye candy as you approach Porterdale from Covington.

What it will be exactly is somewhat of a mystery. Although artist Carol Veliotis, who with her partner in art Don Trout, hinted it will be something BIG and beautiful. For us, this is the great beginning of the renewal of Washington Street as it approaches Porterdale, Veliotis said.

Porterdale Mayor Arline Chapman said this about the project: "It will be a huge, welded art piece, incorporating animals, etc., that have been welded together from items that they are now picking through." Oconee Metal Recovery is suppling the parts and workshop for the artist and support the project 100 percent.

The plan is for other businesses to catch the enthusiasm and ultimately have a fabulous art drive as you approach Porterdale, Mayor Chapman said.

As I watched the artist shift through the junk, and piece by piece slowly create art it  was amazing.

I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
