Members of the Light of the World Christian Tabernacle in Stockbridge will be embarking on a mission trip to Kenya next month.

"The churches we are visiting were visited a year ago; my church helped in that establishment," said Nekita Jacobs, a member of Light of the World. "Many new members have joined, and the churches have really grown."

According to Bishop Jean Wilson, one of the purposes of the trip is to consecrate two pastors to bishops as well as to ordain many pastors, deacons and evangelists.

Church members also will visit orphanages, assist in obtaining educational materials for new churches and distribute Bibles and clothing.

There will be four to five members of the Light of the World making the day-long flight to Nairobi, Kenya’s capital as well as its largest city. The Light of the World Christian Tabernacle is part of an international ministry that has churches in more than 200 countries.

Jacobs will be making her first mission trip.

"Since I was eighteen, I have always wanted to go to Africa in order to make a difference," Jacobs said.

In addition to the work that has already been scheduled for the group, Jacobs wants to look into ways to help dig wells to ensure clean drinking water for the Kenyan people.

Jacobs has also been very involved in collecting donations for the trip. She has set up a website for anyone interested in helping. Donations can be monetary or in the form of Bibles or clothing.

The website for making a donation is www.youcaring.com/hecares.
