James Almand
Private First Class James Dylan Almand, 22, of Covington, graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on March 27. PFC Almand successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD Parris Island as one of 72 recruits in Training Platoon 1016. While in basic training PFC Almand was meritoriously promoted. Following ten days home leave he will report to Camp Lejeune for one month at Military Combat Training then Military Occupation Specialty school.

Shaniqua Anderson
Air Force Airman Shaniqua S. Anderson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies, performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree relating through the Community College of the Air Force.
She is the daughter of Alfreda Davis of Walt Road, Phenix City, Ala., and Carey Anderson Jr. of Lakeview Trail, Covington.

The airman is a 2008 graduate of Russell County High School, Seale, Ala.

Caspian Casey
Air Force Airman Caspian V. Casey has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies, performed drill and ceremony marches and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree relating through the Community College of the Air Force.
She is the daughter of Larry Wilcoxson and Thea Casey-Wilcoxson of Providence Drive, Covington.

Her brother, Dennis Williams, resides on Beers St., New Haven, Conn.

The airman is a 2007 graduate of Alcovy High School.

Joshua Holt
Army National Guard Pfc. Joshua N. Holt has been mobilized and activated for deployment overseas to a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.

Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq's economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq's sovereignty and independence as a democracy.

The private, a military police with one year of military service, is normally assigned to the 178th Military Police Company, Monroe.

He is the son of Stevie D. Holt of Gardner Road, Conyers, and Corrie Z. Holt of Cambridge Way, Covington.

Illisha Johnson
Air Force Airman Illisha T. Johnson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Army Pfc. Alexis C. Smith has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

She is the daughter of Ulanda Jenkins of Covington St., Jackson, and granddaughter of Obera Jenkins of Mote Road, Covington.

Smith is a 2008 graduate of Jackson High School, Jackson.

Claudia Suncar
Army Reserve Pfc. Claudia Chatara Suncar has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

William Thompson
Army Reserve Pvt. William D. Thompson has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. The soldier studied Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat and field maneuvers and tactics.

He is the son of Linda L. Thompson of Oxford and is a 1985 graduate of Loganville High School.

Rodney Welch
Air Force Airman Rodney D. Welch has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Kevin Woaster
Kevin W. Woaster has been promoted to the rank of captain in the U.S. Army.

The captain, an executive officer is currently deployed at Camp Liberty, Iraq. He is normally assigned to the 46th Engineer Combat Battalion, Fort Polk, Leesville, La.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Woaster of Towers Road, Oxford.

Woaster graduated in 2000 from Eastside High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2005 from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
