The UGA Metropolitan Design Studio is in the final stages of its Covington/Newton County Government District Plan and will make its final public presentation at 4 p.m. March 16 at The Center for Community Planning and Preservation on Washington Street.
Monday, the UGA architecture students presented their latest work and described their view of what a future government district would look like. They described a government "college campus" idea, where all of the government buildings would be close together and would be linked by several pedestrian walkways. Cars would not be able to drive through the district but would be able to park around it and the drivers could walk to wherever they needed.
Students also presented ideas about how to improve storm water collection, "green" buildings and surrounding landscapes and create a defined downtown by using unique signs to label the area.Metropolitan Design Studio students to show final presentations
