Hail, tornadoes and lighting were all topics up for discussion for Fairview Elementary School first and fourth graders listening to a weather presentation given by 11Alive News meteorologist Allison Chinchar Friday afternoon.
Students learned what it takes to be a television meteorologist and were informed of several other weather related careers as Chinchar talked to pupils about the world of meteorology. She also educated students on how different types of weather took place.
The weekend meteorologist explained how weather reports were given on-air to TV news viewers and gave a visual example of how hail was formed before it hit the ground with the help of a student volunteer, hair dryer and ping pong ball. At the end of the presentation students had the opportunity to ask Chinchar questions, including her favorite part of being a meteorologist. Her answer — covering snow storms and making snowmen was her favorite part of being a meteorologist.
