The Mayfield Hardware Company is sponsoring a delightfully punny fundraiser for local non-profits: The Helpful Chair-ity Event.
The company purchased 20 Adirondack chairs and donated them to 20 non-profit organizations around Newton County. The chairs are being individually decorated by each non-profit and will be raffled off April 16, with all the proceeds being split evenly between the 20 non-profits.
Tickets can be purchased beginning Monday from either Mayfield location, on the square at 1115 Washington St. S.W. or in Newton Plaza at 3173 Highway 278 N.E. People can purchase 1 ticket for $5, 6 for $25, 15 for $50, 25 for $75 or 40 for $100.
"Mayfield Ace Hardware has a core value of being helpful to the community and we wanted to highlight other organizations in the county and at the same time raise a little money for them," Mayfield Hardware Manager Kendra Mayfield said. "There is a lot of good going on in our community, a lot of tremendously dedicated people."
Mayfield Hardware will be displaying some of chairs at its store, while the others will be displayed at the locations of various non-profits. Mayfield will be highlighting a different chair each day on its Facebook page.
"Everyone has taken it in their own direction, I think it's been fun," Mayfield said, noting that a local Girl Scout troop has already pledged to buy $400 worth of tickets.
In addition to supporting 18 local non-profits, each Mayfield location is decorating a chair and will donate money to CURE Childhood Cancer and Relay for Life.
