A man was shot in his apartment on Kirkland Road Saturday night.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office received a call on Saturday evening at approximately 5:30 about a gunshot victim. The victim was in a vehicle being driven to the hospital, and deputies instructed the driver to pull over and wait for an ambulance to arrive. The victim was met at the Salem Square shopping Center, where he was taken by ambulance to an Atlanta area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The victim is currently in stable condition.
Deputies learned that the shooting took place at the victim's residence, located at 1774 Kirkland Road, Apt. A.
According to Lt. Tyrone Oliver with the Sheriff's Office, witnesses in the home stated that four black males had knocked on the door of the home and had been let in. A disagreement broke out between the victim and the men and shots were fired.
The investigation is ongoing. Oliver said the incident is suspected to be drug-related.
A woman, Jamecia Mack, who was in the apartment at the time, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, cruelty to children in the third degree and maintaining a disorderly house. She has not been charged with any crimes associated with the shooting.
