A 20-year-old man was shot at several times and hit once while walking through The Silos Saturday afternoon.

When deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office arrived at Hazelhurst Drive, they spoke with a resident of the area who reportedly told them he answered a knock at his door and opened it to find the victim there bleeding from the arm.

They spoke with the victim who allegedly told them he did not know who shot him but that he had been walking down the street when a small gray car occupied by three or four black males rolled up and began shooting at him. He reportedly told deputies he was shot at several times and attempted to run away from the vehicle.

A witness to the shooting who had allegedly been walking on the same street as the victim reportedly told deputies at least two of the men in the car had dreadlocks and at least three were firing at the victim. According to reports the witness told deputies he heard approximately 15 shots fired from what sounded like a revolver (.38 caliber or .357).

The victim reportedly told deputies the shooting occurred on Lantana Lane, and although the area was searched, investigators were reportedly unable to locate any shell casings from the bullets fired. The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for a bullet wound to his wrist.
