An alleged argument led to someone getting shot in the leg in the area of Green Acres Friday.

According to reports two men were exchanging words throughout the day, before one of them, the shooting suspect, went to purchase more alcohol with another male, a witness to the shooting.

The witness told an officer with the Covington Police Department that when the two got back to Pine Needle, the suspect allegedly removed a Glock model 19 handgun from his center console. He then reportedly began running toward the victim, who had been sitting on the porch on the side of his house, and started shooting.

The victim ran off the porch and fled around his house, according to reports.

The witness told officers the suspect went into the house and placed the gun in a room and fled on foot.

Officers were later able to retrieve the alleged hand gun in a laundry basket within a closet in one of the house’s bedrooms.

According to reports, the victim was taken in a private vehicle to Newton Medical Center, where he was questioned by CPD.

Warrants for the arrest are pending by CPD.

CPD Captain Craig Treadwell said that was the only major incident in Covington on July 4. There was one reported DUI, along with four discharging firearms calls Friday.
