A 22-year-old Covington man was killed over the weekend and according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Shane Allen, alcohol was a factor in the single car accident.

Clayton Joshua Karp was killed instantly when the 1994 GMC Sonoma he was driving veered off Brown Bridge Road between Spiller’s Lane and Riverstone Parkway at 4:07 p.m. Saturday. According to Allen, a witness who was driving behind Karp allegedly reported that his truck simply veered off the roadway and straight into a pine tree.

Inside his truck, authorities reportedly located drugs and an unopened can of beer. Karp did have his seatbelt fastened at the time of the wreck. Toxicology reports are pending.
