A 28-year-old man remains incarcerated at the Newton County Detention Center after being arrested Wednesday evening for allegedly stabbing someone in the head with a pair of scissors.

Officers from the Covington Police Department were called to a home on Clane Drive in reference to a man being stabbed. When they arrived they reportedly found some people standing on the porch waving their arms for help and when officers walked up to the house they found a man sitting there holding a bloody towel against the left side of his head.

When officers asked the group who had stabbed the man a woman reportedly told them that Samuel Martin Powell had stabbed the victim in the head with a pair of scissors and ran up to the S&S Package Store.

Other CPD officers headed in that direction looking for Powell and while they were doing that, the officer at the home spoke to witnesses about what exactly had taken place that night.

According to one woman, Powell had been drinking throughout the day and did not take his medication. She reportedly told officers that Powell had been attempting to fight with everyone that day and, at one point, he walked into the living room and "just attacked" the victim.

Officers located Powell at the package store and placed him under arrest without incident. The victim was transported to Newton Medical Center
