A man was arrested Wednesday night after reportedly assaulting his daughter during an argument.
Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Fox Meadow Drive and met with Erwin James Simmons. Simmons allegedly told them that he and his daughter had been arguing and she had attacked him, forcing him to defend himself.
When deputies spoke with the victim, she confirmed the two had argued and that Simmons had been yelling at her, and when she told him to leave her alone, he "jumped up and said ‘you're not going to talk to me like that'" before attacking her.
Deputies noticed a large cut on her face that was bleeding and she reportedly told them her father had put his hand around her neck and began to punch her.
Simmons was arrested and transported to the Newton County Detention Center where he was charged with Family Violence Act battery.
