Local health office adds two midwives

Continuing their commitment to providing the highest quality obstetrical, gynecological and urogynecological care, Covington Women’s Healthcare Specialists has added two new midwifes to their staff.

Although the office has always had a midwife, with the higher demand for them in the area, Dr. Cathy Larrimore decided to bring more on to join her staff. A midwife suite will open in the practice in the near future (in roughly three to six months).

“There has gotten to be a high demand in this area for midwife pre-care,” said Larrimore. “So I wanted to offer more options to the residents, and since the Newton Medical Center birth care center has been renovated with the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit), it’s just a wonderful and nurturing place to start a family. We wanted to make sure we had more people to offer providers for use in that facility.”

Midwives Janice “JJ” Joiner and Lynn Stock, along with nurse practitioner Kerry Dewberry and Larrimore, make up the staff of healthcare professionals in the office.

The office also provides minimally invasive surgery, family planning, basic infertility care, gynecologic care, prenatal and gynecological visits, natural pregnancy and labor and delivery.
