State Sen. John Douglas was honored Tuesday as Legislator of the Year by Georgia firefighters and fire chiefs. The annual award was presented to Douglas for his advocacy for firefighters and public safety. "This is a tremendous honor to be recognized like this," Douglas said. He was presented with the award at the Covington Fire Department Station 2. Presenters were Jackie Gibbs of the Marietta Fire Department and Scott Carter of the Cartersville Fire Department. "He was a real champion for public safety," Gibbs said.
