Legion remembers fallen soldiers

American Legion Post 32 of Covington held a Memorial Day ceremony on the Covington square.  

Opening prayer was given by Wayne Hunt, chaplain.  Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Gaile Stephens, music teacher at Fairview Elementary School, sang the National Anthem and America the Beautiful.  

Bobby Hamby, Post 32 Commander, gave opening remarks and introduced the speaker. Speaker for the ceremony was Lt. Col Rick Stanford, MCJROTC commander at Newton High School. Following the speaker, Terry Moore and Glenn Whitaker read the names of veterans from Newton County who sacrificed their life for their country. Jimmy Cronan and Danny Garner placed the large red, white and blue wreath on the memorial. Closing prayer was given by Chaplain Hunt. Taps was played by Brandi Ishem.
