The face of the Covington Square has changed after a balcony was constructed on the Irish Bred Pub last week.
Crews added the balcony, which will seat about 50 people, after installing eight posts on the sidewalk of Church Street.
"The project is coming along nicely," said Jack Phillips, president of Phillips Holding Group, which is opening the restaurant. "
Once the city has finalized power upgrades, we will begin the final push to have the pub finished in April. Our contractor Industrial Mechanical, Inc. has done a great job in dealing with the various surprises that a 110 year old building has presented."
The restaurant, which originally was slated to be open in time for Saint Patrick’s Day, is now expected to open sometime in April.
It will be the second restaurant to open on the Square this year, after Your Pie opened in February.
"My wife Lisa and I hope that the citizens of Covington and beyond are proud of all of the recent changes to our historic square," Phillips said. "We are so happy to see the growth and preservation that has occurred on the square. While so many historic downtowns are on their last breath, Covington's historic square is a prime example of historic preservation and economic development."
Irish Bred is opening in the building, which formerly housed Church Street Antiques. Phillips said he has taken great effort to restore the historic two-story building that will be the Pub.
"Our intent was to preserve its great history and to uncover the historic features of this grand lady," Phillips said. "We have made sure this building will last another 100 years and will be a historic treasure for this community. The new balcony will be a great centerpiece to the building’s facade and will provide a great view for our guests."
Those interested in employment at the Pub can drop off a resume next door at the CORK boutique and gifts or email it to irishbredpubcovington@gmail.com, and interviewing will begin soon. Positions will include chefs, line cooks, food runners, kitchen support staff, bartenders, wait staff and other support staff.
"We will have flexible schedules and we want team members that want to be a part of a great organization that is focused on the delivering the best guest experience possible," Phillips said. "We appreciate the significant interest in employment with the pub and we feel confident that we will have a great team to service our guests. We will continue to post update regarding employment opportunities on our Facebook site."
