I-20 WB reopened after crash at Sigman Road

UPDATED (June 1, 12:04 p.m): The single-car crash that shut down I-20 westbound sent four children and one adult to the hospital.

According to Rockdale Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Sharon Webb, the car had five occupants - one adult and four children. Two children were transported to Egleston Children’s Hospital, one by helicopter and one by ground ambulance. The other occupants were transported to Grady Hospital by ground ambulance.

The accident involved a single-car rollover between West Avenue and Sigman Road.

Traffic has been restored at this time.


(June 1, 11:13 a.m.) Interstate 20 westbound is closed at Sigman Road due to an accident with injury around 11 a.m., according to Conyers Police. A lifeflight will be coming into the area for the crash victim.

According to a witness, a blue older-model Volkswagen Golf with at least two occupants began to fishtail and spin. It went across the lanes on I-20 in front of a tractor-trailer into the embankement and trees on the right of the interstate.

Drivers are advised to find alternate routes.
