COVINGTON, Ga. – The completion date for the Highway 36 Henderson Mill Road intersection is still set for Aug. 31; however the work will not be completed by that time, according to a statement to The Covington News from Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) District Two Communications Specialist Kyle Collins.

“The work will not be completed by the end of August,” he said. “We don’t have an accurate completion estimate at this time.”

The $1.9 million job went to Knight and Associates Inc. and they continue to be the prime contractor.

“They are over 50 percent behind the anticipated progress schedule at this stage,” Collins said. “Georgia DOT project management has worked with all parties involved to speed up the progress.”

Collins said once the Aug. 31 passes, Knight and Associates Inc. will be “penalized within contract parameters for not having various pay items done.”

“The department isn’t pleased with the progress or lack thereof and continues working at the area, district and state construction office level to get things moving,” he said.
