The City of Covington Housing Authority is undergoing an audit of its financial department after a theft by an employee was suspected, according to a Covington Police Department (CPD) incident report.

Greg Williams, executive director of the housing authority, filed the report with CPD Captain Philip Bradford Oct. 26. The alleged theft occurred between January 2015 and September 2016.

“It is unknown at this time the total amount,” Bradford reported. The audit should help determine the exact total, according to the report.

“There is an investigation underway so I am not at liberty to discuss any details," Williams told The News Friday. “I would refer you to [CPD] Chief [Stacey] Cotton. I believe that it is being turned over to the GBI.”

Cotton said the investigation is at the preliminary stages and he could not provide any other information. He confirmed that the GBI has been contacted to assist in the investigation.
