Mr. Horace Oneal Vason died Oct. 17. The son of Mrs. Dora Lucile Sims and the late Mr. Arthur "Pap" Vason Sr., he was born in 1952 in Covington. He was the second of their three sons. He was preceded in death by half-sister Kathy Maude Woods; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Shedrick (Emma) Vason, Mr. and Mrs. Earlie (Etta) Sims Sr.; aunts Irene Vason, Delthia Deer, Ellen Heard; and uncles Charlie and Albert Vason. He was raised and educated in Newton County and graduated from R. L. Cousins High School in 1970. Affectionately called Super Lou, he was an avid sports fan and played baseball with the Springfield Reds baseball team. He joined Good Hope Baptist Church at a young age. Always a hard worker, Mr. Vason worked for various companies in Newton County, most recently at Georgia Plating Company. Mr. Vason was a loving, caring and friendly person who loved talking to people. During his spare time he loved to watch television, especially sports games and "Sanford and Son."

Surviving are his mother Mrs. Dora Lucile Vason; brothers Mr. Arthur "Pig" Vason Jr., Mr. Harold Vason; aunts Ms. Margie Sims, Ms. Gladys Sims; uncles Mr. Earlie Sims Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Clifford (Mary) Sims; great uncle Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Cathy) Camp, all of Covington; great-aunts Mrs. Amy Russell, Mrs. Edith Camp, Mrs. Ruby Kate Kamp, all of Covington, Mrs. Florence Wormack of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Emma Rose Morris and Mrs. Lois Banks, both of Atlanta; a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and a host of loving cousins and dear friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Good Hope Baptist Church with pastor Ed Tomlinson officiating. Interment will be in Flat Shoals Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21.
