Twenty-five World War II veterans, including several from Newton County, and their guardians flew to Washington, D.C. from Atlanta on Thursday in the inaugural flight of Honor Flight Conyers. The group left the American Legion Post 77 at 5 a.m., escorted by police, and spent the day in Washington D.C. visiting monuments and memorials such as the World War II memorial. The veterans, who came from across the metro Atlanta region and the state and ranged from ages 84 - 97, returned at 11:30 p.m travel-weary but proud.
