School- and grade-level Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) scores were released by the Georgia Department of Education Tuesday, showing positive increases in both elementary and middle school results for the 2013-2014 school year.
A Newton County School System (NCSS) press release stated its district’s schools showed improvement “not only on the pass rates of the individual subjects tested but also on the number of students moving from the meets category to exceeds category on these tests.”
Students are given a scaled score demonstrating whether they did not meet, met or exceeded the standards established by the state’s standardized testing system.
“We continue to show marked improvement in our pass rate,” said NCSS Superintendent Samantha Fuhrey. “The data not only show that we are increasing the percentage of students who ‘meet the standard,’ but we are also increasing the percentage of students who ‘exceed the standard.’ This is a testament to the focused work of our teachers, leaders, staff, and students.
“While our scores do not reflect where we want to be, we are headed in the right direction. Our goal is to meet or exceed state averages on each and every administered assessment. The 2014-2015 school year will entail increased rigor and expectations for all students in grades 3-8 as they will face a new assessment in the Georgia Milestone Assessment System that will require deeper understanding of the content. Our students will benefit greatly from continued support from their families and our community as they prepare to do their very best work on the Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade (EOG) assessments in the spring of 2015.”
