The Good Hope Baptist Church will celebrate their 100 year anniversary on Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m. with a special anniversary service. On May 18, the music department will have a free concert for all who would like to attend. Saturday, May 19, there will be a community cook out as well.

"We hope that everyone will come out to these events to celebrate the 100 year anniversary for our church," Rev. E.J. Tomlinson said.

The Good Hope Baptist Church was established in May 1912 under the leadership of Rev. L.J Johnson. Since then, the church has been directed by twelve different pastors. The church has held services that varied from being in members' homes and Flat Shoals Elementary School to three different buildings built on the church property today. The church was christened as Good Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Johnson's wife Sister Mary. She became the first Mother of the church soon after.

"There has been a lot of history in the church, but through all of the ups and downs, our congregation has stood strong in its faith in the Lord," Tomlinson said.

Good Hope has over 320 members and the congregation has stood together through times of war and peace.

"We are so thankful to our congregation for everything they do for us," Tomlinson said. "We hope that everyone in the community will come visit with us."
