It’s not quite Christmas in June, but July 4 celebrations are set to begin early in Social Circle this year.

The City of Social Circle is hosting its Fireworks Fundraiser Golf Tournament Friday, June 13 to raise money for its city-wide Independence Day celebration happening later this month.

The 18-hole golf tournament will be held at Hard Labor Creek Park with registration at 11 a.m. and tee-off at noon.
City Manager Doug White said there are 10 teams organized to participate so far and that he hopes many more register. To-play fees are $75 for an individual player and $100 for a team. Teams may sponsor their business or group at the tournament.

Lunch will be provided by Chick-Fil-A before tee-off.

All proceeds go to costs for the Saturday, June 28 Independence Day Celebration, White said. A parade through downtown Social Circle will begin at Social Circle High School and end at the old football field, where live music will entertain the public.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the parade will be accompanied by the 116th Army Band from Marietta, and the best float will receive a $200 prize.

“It’s a bring your lounge chairs and sit on the field and enjoy type of event,” White said.

At 6:30 p.m. the parade will end at Stephens Park, where Charlotte Ritchie will perform a gospel concert.

Food vendors, including grilled hotdogs from the fire department, ice cream, Italian ice and BBQ from Big Kev’s Barbeque and Catering will be available.
