A girl out playing in her yard discovered a handgun Tuesday morning.

According to reports from the Covington Police Department, officers were called and met with the girl and her mother. The girl told officers that she had found the gun laying under a rock in a storm drain and told her mother. She said she did not personally pick the gun up because she felt uncomfortable doing so.

The gun was covered as dirt and identified by authorities as an air soft gun. It was placed in the CPD evidence room for processing.
