Gas for your car is going to take a bigger chunk from your wallet this week.

Prices in Metro Atlanta rose 13.3 cents per gallon in the past week, according to GasBuddy.com. That's more than twice the hike experienced in other regions, with the average cost per gallon rising 6.3 cents per gallon nationally.

The average price per gallon in Newton County for regular ranges from $3.47 to $3.56, according to GasBuddy.com. The average cost of a gallon of regular nationally is $3.63.5 cents, according to GasBuddy.com.

Gas prices rose more across the South than in other regions, according to Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com.

"It's certainly possible prices could go higher," he said.

Expect volatile pricing to continue through the summer, according to DeHaan. Atlanta prices could range from $3.45 to $3.85, but an event such as a hurricane disrupting production in the Gulf of Mexico could cause a higher spike.
