ELBERTON - The Elbert County sheriff's office says a man who escaped from the Madison County Jail has surrendered, ending a four-day manhunt.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office says 31-year-old Russell Frank Massey surrendered Thursday morning.

The Madison County sheriff's office says Massey, along with 33-year-old Jason Lee Hattaway, escaped Saturday by climbing a fence topped with razor wire. Hattaway was captured the next night.

Authorities say Massey was seen Monday in Elbert County. Investigators believe he stole a pickup truck that was recovered Wednesday.

He had been in jail since May 19, when he was arrested at his parents' home in Hull. Deputies trying to serve a child support warrant arrested Massey on charges of possession of meth, obstruction, interference with government property and simple battery against a police officer.
