'Filthy' home leads to charges

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — A Cobb County couple has been arrested after authorities found two children living in a filthy home filled with roaches, trash and animal droppings.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/16B72uy ) Carlton and Sharon Hightower of Power Springs were arrested Thursday in Cobb County juvenile court.

Jail records show they face two counts each of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Sharon Hightower was also charged with first degree cruelty to children.

An arrest warrant says the couple allowed a 14-month-old and a 9-year-old to live in a home in terrible conditions, and the baby had blistering and severe diaper rash.

Jail records show Carlton Hightower was released Friday on $15,000 bond, and Sharon Hightower was released early Saturday on $20,000 bond. It was not immediately clear if they had lawyers.
