Emory Street will be closed from Stalling Street to Usher Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, for a tree removal.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is removing a large, dead oak tree, according to Covington Transportation Manager Bill Skinner.

Drivers will still have access to City Hall and other businesses in that area. They will have to detour on Pace Street to continue traveling on Emory Street.

In other road construction news, Skinner said the Turner Lake Road roundabout project is nearing completion. J.J.E. Constructors will be pouring concrete for the islands and curbing beginning Monday, and then will be paving the week after. The final steps will be to complete the lighting, paint lines and put up signs. The $775,000 project must be completed by Dec. 9, and Skinner said construction is on schedule.

The city is also working on a stormwater project on Old Monticello Street.
