EMC donation helps veterans

On Jan. 16, members of the Snapping Shoals EMC Trust Board presented $5,000 from Operation Round Up funds to Honor Flight Conyers president Dave Smith. Operation Round Up is a voluntary program for Snapping Shoals EMC members in which they allow their monthly power bills to be rounded up to the next dollar. The funds are used to help qualifying charitable/community organizations with specific needs that they have or to directly help people in need of assistance with household or living expenses, home repairs or equipment and medical or health needs.
The Honor Flight program is a nonprofit organization which flies World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., free of charge to visit war memorials. Honor Flight Conyers is one of 117 HUBs throughout the country and services veterans throughout Georgia. The local HUB was formed in 2011 and has transported 100 veterans free of charge to Washington D.C.

The generosity of the Snapping Shoals members will support flights to Washington, and our World War II heroes, throughout 2013. If you know of a World War II veteran who is interested in participating in this program, please contact Honor Flight Conyers at 770-483-4049, HonorFlightConyers.com or email HonorFlightConyers@comcast.net.
