A man, 77, was arrested and charged after reportedly holding two teens at gunpoint and getting into a physical altercation with one of the teen's mothers Saturday evening.
Newton County Sheriff's Public Deputy Cortney Morrison said that a call came in to 911 Saturday evening from Demus Oscar Mullinax of Cochran Road. He reportedly said that he had found two 15 year olds riding 4-wheelers on his property and was holding them at gunpoint.
As the boys were being held, one called his mother on his cell phone. She headed to the area, picking a friend up on the way. The two called 911 as well as they were headed to the Cochran Road area.
When they arrived, the mother noticed Mullinax pointing a gun toward the wood line and got her gun out to confront him. She allegedly ordered Mullinax to drop his weapon and he refused. The two engaged in a physical altercation, causing the mother to end up on the ground, at which time she fired her gun twice into the air.
Deputies responded to the location and took Mullinax into custody and charged him with pointing a gun or pistol at another and simple battery.
