Eastside High School’s Drama Club will present "Steel Magnolias," written by Robert Harling, at 2 p.m. March 15 and 16.

This is the club’s third main-stage production this school year, and was selected because EHS drama teacher, Jennifer Fuller, knew she had a lot of extremely talented girls who were going to be a part of EHS Drama Club this school year.

"All of the roles in Steel are strong female leads. The story plays up the reality of challenges that women face every day and shows just a bit of the beautiful bond that can be grown in a small town," Fuller said.

Roles include: Senior Amberly Moseley as "Truvy;" sophomore Emily Fulmer as "Clairee;" and senior Alayna Behnke as "Shelby." Fuller said this will be the first time performing for each of the girls.

The role of Annelle is being played by senior Destiny Ralston; "M’lynn" is being played by senior Kristen Huffman, and "Ouiser" will be played by junior Danysha Lamadieu. Lamadieu is the vice president of the EHS drama club and thespian troupe No. 5649. She is also one of seven students chosen as State Thespian Officers for the state of Georgia.

Fuller said the show is being directed by EHS senior Haley Casola, the drama club president.

"Eastside Drama is a fantastically strong department and is growing by the day," Fuller said. "I like to choose titles that are familiar to the public in order to encourage greater attendance. The students work so hard. They deserve a full house every night. I want to do everything I can to get that for them."

Admission for the play is $7. All Eastside teachers will be admitted free. Performances will be held in Eastside’s auditorium, 10245 Eagle Drive.

Fuller said the next stage production at the school, "Seussical the Musical," will be presented at 7 p.m. April 24 and 26; and 2 p.m. April 27. She said the drama department will also hold at least four Improv performances throughout the year.
