Earth Day: Snapping Shoals EMC celebrates Earth Day
Placeholder Image

In honor of Earth Day, Snapping Shoals EMC is raising awareness about the importance of nourishing a clean, sustainable environment by providing area elementary schools and educating customers about energy conservation. Planting trees encompasses the spirit of Earth Day, as it is a day for actions that enhance the environment and trees naturally help improve air quality, conserve water and save energy. All elementary schools that the co-op serves received a 6-foot Autumn Blaze Maple for planting on school grounds.

As a special surprise gift from the co-op, the first 50 customers who visit the co-op’s main office on Brown Bridge Road on Thursday, April 22, will received a free energy efficiency kit. The kits, which include items such as caulk and compact florescent bulbs, provide useful resources to help customers conserve energy in their homes.

As part of Snapping Shoals’ continuing commitment to the environment, the EMC is also a part of Green Power EMC, a partnership of electric membership corporations in Georgia formed to facilitate the procurement of renewable energy sources for its members. Green Power EMC utilizes "green" resources such as biomass, solar, wind and water to generate electricity. Since inception, Green Power EMC has generated more than 151,191,763 kilowatt-hours of green energy, providing the same environmental benefits as taking 149,694 cars off Georgia’s roads, or planting 213,314 acres in trees.
