The Newton County Democratic Party was out and about Saturday delivering bags of food and toiletries to needy families during the holiday season. Members drove around the county and handed out 25 bags of goodies, including oranges, apples, bananas, onions, green beans, canned salmon, mouthwash, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
The party asked local churches to send names of residents who needed help. Members loaded up the bags at the Mason’s Hall, and then headed out. First Vice Chair Andre Cooper and Minister Willie Smith delivered groceries to a thankful Annie Laura Clark.
Leftover onions, sweet potatoes and other items were donated to the Rainbow Covenant Ministries Homeless Shelter.
