Authorities in Social Circle are investigating a body found late Thursday night. According to Social Circle director of public safety Tom Fox, a 911 call placed at 11:44 p.m. reported seeing a fire being started in the woods off exit 101 near Interstate 20 and Ga. Hwy. 278. According to Fox, firefighters responded to the blaze and discovered a black male, possibly in his 30s.

Both the GBI and Social Circle Police Department were working the scene throughout the day Friday morning. The GBI conducted an autopsy Saturday but have yet to release the name of the victim. Results of the autopsy to reveal cause of death are expected later this week.

While the nature of the death is unknown, this is the second death under investigation in Social Circle this year. Social Circle resident Dana Baynes, 31, was shot and killed in March, while attending a party on Holly Street.

Baynes was reportedly shot by fellow resident Preston Holt, 45, who was arrested shortly after the shooting was called in to police. Holt is being charged with murder.
