Pictured are Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy Nikki Benton, left, Outstanding Self-Esteem Award winner Noah Quick, the official DARE mascot Daren and Outstanding DARE Student Award winner Reilly Walker. The DARE program equips children with the tools necessary to resist pressures to use drugs and to stay away from violence. The program is taught in all 13 elementary schools in Newton County by a joint effort between the Covington Police Department and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
