ATLANTA - The Georgia State Patrol says a motorcyclist is dead after slamming into a car while trying to flee a state trooper.

The incident happened in southeast Atlanta Monday night.

The State Patrol's Lt. Paul Cosper says that when the trooper turned on his patrol lights to make a traffic stop, the motorcyclist tried to speed away but hit the back of another car.

Authorities did not release the name of the motorcyclist.
