A CSX railroad employee was significantly injured at General Mills’ distribution center in Social Circle around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The worker, who has not yet been identified, was spotting a train as it backed up and got tangled or caught between or under the cars, according to Social Circle Fire Chief Ken Zaydel, who said the man was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

“CSX is conducting an investigation into the accident and cooperating fully with local law enforcement,” said spokeswoman Kristin Seay.

She said the employee is being treated, but she had no more details.

Roads were blocked to the site on East Hightower Trail south from Willow Springs Church Road to about half a mile north of the site Wednesday, according to a News photographer on the scene.
