Trailers stolen from packaging facility on Alcovy Rd.
Covington police responded to Rock-Tenn Corrugated Container located on Alcovy Road in reference to a theft on Wednesday.
A police officer spoke with a man who said some time between Sept. 12-19, someone took two trailers that were parked at the annex warehouse on Industrial Boulevard. The trailers were white with the name Brown in blue lettering on the side. One of the trailer's had contained $11,356.69 worth of corrugated boxes in it and the other trailer had $8,083.19 worth of corrugated boxes. The trailers were both valued at $15,000.
Woman reports items stolen from storage unit
A woman said someone took her belongings out of a locker at a storage building.
A deputy with the Newton County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a storage facility in Covington on Thursday in reference to a call about a theft. The deputy spoke with the woman who said on Aug. 18 she placed her items in a storage locker and came back to remove the items on Aug. 29. The woman said when she opened the locker, all her items were missing.
She spoke with the manager of the property and he said her gate code had only been used both times she was on the property. The woman did not put a lock on her locker when she placed the items in storage.
Checks stolen from woman's mailbox
A woman reported some of her mail stolen on Thursday morning.
A deputy with the Newton County Sheriff's Office spoke to a woman at a home on Lassiter Drive who said she noticed checks were missing from her mailbox. The woman told the deputy that she placed five Bank of America checks addressed to different businesses in her mailbox around 8 a.m. She returned home around 10:30 a.m. to place more mail in her mail box and noticed the checks were gone.
When the mail carrier arrived to the home about 30 minutes later, she told the woman she hadn't picked up her mail yet. A stop payment was placed on the checks. No other mail was reported tampered with or stolen.
Decal stolen off man's vehicle tag
A man reported a sticker stolen from his Georgia tag on Thursday.
Covington police spoke to a man at a home located on Old Atlanta Highway who said someone stole his decal off of his tag that was on his 1993 Ford pickup truck.
The man said the last time he could remember seeing the decal on his tag was three weeks ago. He said he parked his vehicle beside his camper and he rarely drives. The decal was entered into the Georgia Crime Information Center as stolen.
Woman arrested for loitering after asking for money on the square
A Covington woman was arrested for loitering and public intoxication after she was found asking people for money around the square.
Covington police observed Niza Delrosario talking to a woman on College Avenue SE in front of Amici's around 5:30 p.m. Delrosario then walked toward the square and stopped at a parked Honda van and motioned for the driver to lower his window. The police officer began to approach Delrosario but when she saw the officer, she walked away from the man's vehicle. The officer asked the driver if he was approached by Delrosario and the man told the officer yes and that Delrosario told him she needed money for some medical issues. The officer asked Delrosario why she asked the man for money and she told the officer that she needed medicine for her eye.
Police described Delrosario as "unsteady on her feet" and having a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath." She was arrested and taken to the Newton County Jail.
