A woman reported that she was attacked by an old friend Sunday in the parking lot at Merryvale Assisted Living.

According to a report from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded around 9 p.m. to a call about a fight at the assisted living facility in Oxford.

Deputy Felicia Jefferson said a woman, 47, told the deputy that while walking to her vehicle, she saw an old friend of hers, later identified as 51-year-old Arthur Brown, 51, of Conyers. Brown reportedly approached the woman and asked her to take him somewhere, but she told him "no" and to leave her alone, Jefferson said.

"When she tried to get in her vehicle, he started striking her in her face area. Then he told her he would kill her. The victim then stated that another co-worker came outside and the subject took off running," she said.

Brown was subsequently located and arrested. Jefferson said he was charged with terroristic threats and battery.

Man reportedly arrested for battery after family leaves friend behind

A family’s refusal to pick up a friend reportedly led to a bout of violence last Friday.

A report from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy responded to a home on Avonlea Drive just before 10 p.m. Jan. 3 in reference to a family fight. Upon arrival, the deputy found Taurus Mitchell, 20, in the front yard.

Deputy Felicia Jefferson said Mitchell and a friend had been in the yard of another residence all day. She said Mitchell’s mother, juvenile sister and grandmother came to pick him up, but left behind his friend, who was not identified in the report.

"Upon returning home, the subject jumped out of the car and started grabbing rocks and bricks. He began throwing them at the car that they were in, the other car in the yard and the windows in the front of the house," Jefferson said.

Jefferson said Mitchell’s mother got out of the car and tried to stop him, but Mitchell pushed her to the ground.

"The victim then ran in the house to call 911, while the subject continued to break windows out of the vehicles and the home," Jefferson said.

Mitchell was arrested and faces charges including criminal damage to property; simple battery; and cruelty to children.
