CPD warns of utility scam

The Covington Police Department is warning City of Covington utility customers against a scam.

According to a press release, individuals are contacting customers to tell them they are delinquent on their utility bill. The individuals go on to say their service will be cut off if they do not pay their bill immediately. The individual then requests that the customer either provides a credit card number or purchase a green dot card .

CPD warns that "this is fraud. The City of Covington does not call customers delinquent on their utility bill. This information is provided on their actual bill."

The CPD advises that if you have been contacted by individuals representing themselves as City of Covington Utility Employees and have provided these individuals with payment please contact the Covington Police Department and file a police report.
