A Covington woman allegedly ran over her boyfriend with his vehicle after the two had a verbal altercation.

Rashidah Shabazz, 24, is being charged with criminal attempted murder and aggravated assault after she allegedly hit her 38-year-old boyfriend with a 1990 Ford Taurus while he was headed to work on the morning of Jan. 5.

The victim said he felt some back pain and detectives stated he had road rash to both hands and lacerations to both legs. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta to treat his injuries.

He has since been released from the hospital.

According to the police report, around 8 a.m., Shabazz allegedly stopped the Taurus in the middle of the road in the 1000 block of Iris Drive, at which point the victim stepped out of the vehicle and begin walking down the side of the road.

Conyers Police spokesperson Lt. Chris Moon says that Shabazz was taking the victim to work when the two started having an argument in the car. The victim works for TNT Towing which is located just off iris Drive.

He told Shabazz to let him out of the vehicle and he would walk the rest of the way to work, says Moon.

According to the report, witnesses said that shortly after the victim stepped out the car, Shabazz allegedly made a U-turn in the middle of the road, almost hit another vehicle and then hit and ran over the victim from behind.

Shabazz then allegedly made another U-turn in the parking lot of Folks Southern Kitchen, 1081 Iris Drive, Conyers, and fled the scene. A witness who saw the incident followed Shabazz and copied down the license plate number of the vehicle, but the witness says she lost sight of Shabazz after Shabazz pulled into the parking lot of McDonald's, 2320 Salem Road, Conyers.

The victim's mother and sister told police detectives that Shabazz allegedly drove to Grady to visit the victim. When police arrived, Shabazz was gone.

Around 2 p.m. later that day, police found Shabazz at hair salon located at 1427 Ga. Highway 138 and arrested her.

The couple live together, so the case is classified as a domestic violence case.

Shabazz is also being charged with hit and run resulting in serious injury and operating a vehicle without a license. She is currently being held in the Rockdale County Jail.
