COVINGTON, Ga. - The Georgia Forestry Commission will not issue burn permits to Covington residents as of Oct. 2 due to hazardous fire danger.
Covington has a high fire danger rating of 3.0 as of Oct. 1, according to the GFC website.
Residents should not burn on days where the fire danger or fire danger forecast is high, according to the website.
The Weather Channel has forecasted rain for early next week, starting with scattered thunderstorms Monday, so residents may be able to request a permit soon.
"With the cooler weather coming in this week and some possible rain coming in, they'll start issuing," Covington Fire Department Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Joe Doss said. "I speculate it will be about a week out before they do."
