Covington man suspected of murder found in Conyers

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) arrested Deante Hall on Flat Shoals Road in Conyers, Georgia on Friday, July 29, according to a press release.

Through a series of interviews, the NCSO identified Hall, 36, of Covington as the alleged perpetrator in the shooting of Tony Butler, 29, of Atlanta that occurred on July 6 at 403 Gross Lake Parkway. While deputies were on the lookout for a black Dodge pickup truck believed to be involved in the incident, the wounded Butler was found inside of the truck during a traffic stop. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The NCSO and the U.S Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force had been on the lookout for Hall, whose last known location was at the Five Points Marta Station in Atlanta on July 7.

Hall’s arrest was made with assistance from the NCSO Crime Suppression Unit, NCSO Criminal Investigation Division, U.S Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Georgia Department of Corrections, Hall has a past of aggravated assaults, including one charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer.
