Covington man dies in Sunday morning car crash

COVINGTON, Ga. – A Covington man was killed and a Jackson man was flown from the scene by air ambulance after a two vehicle collision in Newton County just before 6 a.m. July 16.

According to a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) traffic crash report, Eric Demond Perry, 43, was killed when the 2011 Toyota Yaris he was driving crossed the double yellow centerline while negotiating a left curve on State Route 162 just south of Larue Road and struck a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck being driven by 59-year-old Randall Glenn Chapman.  The Toyota was traveling south and the pickup was traveling north.

 

According to the report, the Toyota struck the left front of the pickup with its left front. The pick-up’s left front wheel and tire became detached during the collision.

According to the report, both drivers had to be extricated using the jaws-of -life. Perry was pronounced deceased and transported from the scene by Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis. Chapman was flown to Gwinnett Medical Center.

A passenger in the pick-up, 35-year-old Christopher Butler of Jackson, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital by ground ambulance.
