The sub-committee of the Newton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) and the Newton County Solid Waste Authority (SWA) met Tuesday afternoon in an informal work session.
According to SWA chairman Wayne Haynie, the objective of the meeting was to review committee member’s ideas for potential changes to the intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the SWA and BOC and also to identify the next steps in the process.
Among the items discussed were keeping some convenience/recycling centers open past the current June 30 closing date, the future sharing of revenues generated by selling waste energy between the SWA and BOC and the awarding of the franchise for trash collection in the county to the SWA.
The changes to the IGA are scheduled to be discussed at the next SWA meeting, scheduled for Thursday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Newton County Historic Courthouse.
